Leading the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 28, was Elder Duaine Fitzgerald. Following the service, the church family enjoyed fellowship and “Ice Cream on the Lawn” in celebration of Jean Cook’s birthday. On Sunday, July 5, Pastor Bob Silling led the 11 a.m. worship service. The observance of the Sacrament of Communion was led by Elder Joan Potter.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Church family would like to thank those who gave financially to assist with expenses incurred in the search efforts to locate Ian Treger who has been missing since late May while hiking in the mountains of Peru. Ian’s body was recovered last week by those involved in the search. His family has expressed thanks to all for the support, prayers, and kindness they have received. A memorial service and celebration of Ian’s life will be held at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Oct. 25. Ian grew up in the Collierstown Presbyterian Church, and his mother, Michelle Ludwig, is an active member of the congregation.

Rockbridge CAN (Connect and Nourish) will hold a free community dinner, professionally catered and served dine-in style at the Palmer Community Center on Wednesday, July 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. Community residents are invited to attend.

The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department has begun its annual raffle with a $5,000 grand prize, cash giveaways, and other great prizes. Raffle tickets may be purchased from any fire department member. The raffle drawing will take place during the second barbecue chicken sale of the summer season scheduled for July 25 at the firehouse.

Be sure the annual Palmer Ice Cream Supper, sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club is on your summer calendar. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center.

Volunteers are needed to assist and lead Lake Robertson Campground’s Chapel worship services for the 2026 camping season. Community church members and youth groups willing to volunteer to lead a service should contact Roger Lees by phone or text (540) 784-9000 with the Sunday dates they are available. The 30-minute services are held on Sunday mornings from 9 to 9:30 during July and August.
