Library To Host ‘Stuff The Capsule’ Community

Collection Event

The Rockbridge Regional Library will host “Stuff the Capsule: A Collection Event” on Tuesday, July 14, from 2 to 5 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to contribute to the Voices of Lexington: America 250 Community Time Capsule, a project commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The time capsule is intended to preserve a snapshot of the community for future generations and will remain sealed until 2076. Contributions, such as letters to future residents, favorite local memories, descriptions of everyday life, reflections on community events, poems, artwork, photographs and other items that capture the people, culture and character of Lexington today are welcome. Library staff will be available to help participants prepare submissions and photocopy or scan photographs and documents. In addition to contributing items, participants are invited to help create a concrete marker that will be placed at the time capsule site when it is buried.

Those unable to attend the July 14 event may submit items for consideration through July 17.

For more information about participation guidelines and submission requirements, send email to Wendy Redfern at [email protected] or call (540) 463-4324 ext. 118.
