Tomorrow is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence!
This week, we'll take a look at the bicentennial celebration in Rockbridge County, 1976.
The front page stories on July 7, 1976 were:
- New school board members were appointed.
- Buena Vista elected a new mayor and vice mayor.
- An article introducing all of the activities celebrated in the community for the bicentennial was written by N-G Staff Members.
- A Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors member, John Miley Whitesell, made firm decisions about his position.
The entire issue contained photos of the festivities: Street fairs, parades all over Rockbridge County, homemade ice cream and a cow milking contest.
