Flashback Friday

June 6, 2012
Flashback Friday

It wasn't too long ago that The News-Gazette switched to printing color photos. In fact, the photos were still in black and white during the 90s. It wasn't until late 2011 when we started printing color photos, but only on the front page and the first page of the Lifestyle section.

This week isn't a far look into the past, but we hope you'll enjoy the vibrancy of summer in 2012, after our newspaper went to full color photos throughout.

The front page stories for June 6, 2012 are:

  • A storm brought rain and strong winds, resulting in downed trees and flooding.
  • The renovation and consolidation for Maury River Middle School had a viable bid for construction.
  • An 89 year old man died while driving just west of Arnolds Valley Road. His truck ran off the road and crashed into a house, he was not wearing a seat belt.
  • Groundbreaking ceremonies for the "water loop" took place. The project would produce and wholesale water to both the City of Lexington and Rockbridge County.

Let's see how far The News-Gazette has traveled with our subscribers! In this issue, our paper traveled in the US from Hawaii to Florida, then as far as Rome, Italy and Western Caribbean. If you take a copy of The News-Gazette on vacation with you, send us a photo! Message us on Facebook or send the info to our digital media specialist, because we love seeing subscribers bringing our local news all over the world!

Having all color in our paper allows us to see the news and events the way we usually see them, and that is definitely true for the SPCA ad for 'Adopt a Cat Month.' Just look at their sweet kitty faces!

To finish up this week, we get to hear from the Happy Cook! Send us a message or email if you try any of the recipes from the Happy Cook!
