Ian Treger Was On Long Hike To Archaeological Park
Ian Thomas Treger, 29, who grew up in Rockbridge County and graduated from Washington and Lee University in 2020, has been reported missing in Peru.
According to an alert from Peru’s national police force, nobody has heard from or seen Treger since May 13. He was hiking in the Wanchaq District, which is in the Cusco Province. Treger told his family he was going to hike to Choquequirao Archaeological Park.
The hike takes several days, so family friend Donna Welch said Treger’s family didn’t become worried until late May. The Peruvian news agency Andina reported that he was missing on June 11.
Treger is the son of Michelle Ludwig and Neil Treger. Ian Treger was raised in Collierstown and attended Effinger Elementary School, Welch said.
Ian Treger had been traveling around South America as an itinerant teacher, Welch said. He had also been doing a lot of hiking.
According to the police alert, Ian Treger is 5 feet and 10 inches tall. He’s white, with blond hair and blue eyes. According to the alert, he has two small fish tattoos on his right calf.
Anyone with information on Ian Treger’s whereabouts should call Ludwig at (540) 461-1233 or contact the authorities at (+51) 903-450-981.
His mother, who is in Peru, could not be reached for comment for this week’s story.
