Unity4Kids Inc. will be holding a free Family Reading and Literacy Play Date on Saturday, June 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Kids Playce, 102 Wallace St. in Lexington. The event is open to all families – no registration required.
The play date is part of UnityReads, Unity4Kids’ literacy initiative designed to put books directly into the hands of children throughout the region. Families who attend will receive free books and educational resources to take home for the summer, participate in hands on reading activities, and enjoy complimentary snacks. Chick-fil-A Lexington will provide free breakfast for the first 25 children.
“Summer is one of the most critical times for children’s literacy,” said Tammy Reid, founder and executive director of Unity4Kids. “When kids go weeks without access to books, they can lose ground they’ve worked hard to gain. UnityReads exists to close that gap – and events like this one let us do it in a way that’s joyful and welcoming for the whole family.”

The event is supported by community sponsors including the Community Foundation for Rockbridge, Bath & Alleghany, Rockbridge CAN Connect & Nourish, Walmart Lexington, Chick-fil-A Lexington, Spencer Home Center and BARC Electric.
Unity4Kids is a Lexington- based nonprofit serving children and families across Rockbridge, Bath and Alleghany counties through nine programs including meal delivery, food pantry, literacy, mental health advocacy, holiday outreach and emergency financial aid.
