Pedestrian Struck On North Main Street

An Alleghany County man was issued a summons for reckless driving after striking a pedestrian in a low-speed collision on North Main Street, near the Rockbridge Area Transportation Services building on Tuesday afternoon, June 2.

According to a report from the Lexington Police Department, a call came in at 1 p.m. for the incident. The driver of the vehicle, a Nissan Rogue, was identified as George Slate of Alleghany County. Slate told officers that he was making a left turn to go back toward East Lexington when he “heard a collision with his vehicle.” He told officers that he was going less than 5 miles per hour. No damage to the vehicle was reported, and there were no fluid leaks or fire hazards.

The pedestrian, who was not named in the report, stated that she was planning on crossing North Main Street, using the crosswalk at the intersection. She said that she “stopped and checked both ways before crossing” and saw the Nissan Rogue stopped on North Main Street. She said that she felt safe to cross, so she did, but was hit by the vehicle.

She told officers that “her buttocks and left leg hurt,” but reported no other injuries. The report noted that the pedestrian had “no visible injuries or blood” at the scene. She was transported to Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital for evaluation.
