YEDA National Championship At VHC

Nearly 2,000 riders, coaches, families, and equine industry supporters from across the country are expected to visit Lexington this Thursday through Sunday, June 4–7, as the Youth Equestrian Development Association (YEDA) hosts its 2026 National Championship at the Virginia Horse Center.

More than 500 youth riders in grades 4–12 will compete throughout the week in individual and team events as YEDA celebrates the organization’s 10th anniversary. Participants and families are expected from 20 states.

Designed to create access and opportunity within the equine industry, YEDA’s unique catch-riding format allows students to compete without owning or leasing a horse, helping expand participation in equestrian sports for youth from a variety of backgrounds.

Throughout the week, riders will participate in competitions, educational experiences, leadership development activities, and community-building events, including the State Invitational, individual and team championships, the YEDA Royalty Contest, and the organization’s popular Cowboy Prom.

“As YEDA celebrates its 10th anniversary, we are also celebrating the thousands of young people whose lives have been shaped through horses, mentorship, and opportunity,” said Debbie Arnold. “Many of our students have gone on to collegiate equestrian programs, careers within the horse industry, and leadership roles in their communities.”

Organizers say the National Championship represents more than competition, serving as both a youth development initiative and a pipeline into the broader equine industry.

“YEDA was created to open doors for students who may never have imagined a future in the equestrian world,” said Stephanie Wilson, outreach and communications support for YEDA Nationals. “This event brings together sportsmanship, leadership, responsibility, and personal growth in a way that leaves a lasting impact on riders and families alike.”

Opening ceremonies get underway at 9 a.m. each day during the show.
