Goshen Town Council voted at its May meeting to approve a resolution to appropriate the funds from the $1.25 million Community Development Block Grant that was awarded to the town for the development of the community center.
The resolution was the final step in the preliminary process with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development between the awarding of the grant and the town being able to spend the money on the community center project. The town was awarded the grant last February and has been working to complete that preliminary process since.
Vice Mayor Steve Bickley made the motion to approve the resolution and Councilmember Shelia Sampson provided the second. The motion carried 3-0 with Council members Mike Hicks and Derrick Ogden not in attendance.
Following that vote, Council voted to approve a contract with Radford- based engineering firm Thompson & Litton to being work on designing the community center. The contract is for $154,000, which will be billed in six-week increments over a five-month period. That motion also carried in a 3-0 vote.
