The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its successful May 16 barbecue chicken sale. The income from the event will be used by the department to serve the greater Effinger community and its families.

The Collierstown United Women in Faith held their Mother/Daughter/Friend Banquet at the Collierstown United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 16. The event honored the women and special friends of the church. Mary Coulling was recognized as the oldest mother in attendance and Victoria Eberly as the youngest. Linda Painter presented a skit for the evening’s program. A time of good food and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

On Sunday, May 17, Pastor Tony Bennett was the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. On May 24 and May 31, the 11 a.m. worship service speaker will be Elder Duaine Fitzgerald.

The annual community Memorial Day Service will be held on Sunday, May 24, at 12:30 p.m. on top of the cemetery hill at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church. The service will honor those who have served in the military and are buried in the cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the same time in the church sanctuary. Members of the community are invited to attend.

The Effinger Community Vacation Bible School for the Buffalo and Collierstown communities will be held the week of June 7-11 at the Palmer Community Center. This year’s VBS theme will be “Journey through Ireland in Emerald Crossing, where Psalm 23 comes to life!” Children and adults will explore God as Shepherd, Guide, Comforter, Provider and King through David’s story. VBS will run 5:30-8 nightly and offer classes for all ages. This year Vacation Bible School is being sponsored by the seven community churches ‒ Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown and Mt. Horeb United Methodist Churches, Collierstown and Oxford Presbyterian Churches, Rapps Mill Church, and the Union View Advent Christian Church.
