Parry McCluer Theatre invites audiences to accompany 15-yearold Alice Spencer on a journey through 1941 London in their upcoming performance of “Alice By Heart.”
Performances will take place in Chandler Hall at Southern Virginia University on Thursday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 16, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Hunkered down in a makeshift bomb shelter, Alice is tormented by the terrors of the Blitz of World War II. When her best friend, Alfred, becomes sick with tuberculosis, Alice escapes into her favorite book, “Alice in Wonderland.” However, she soon discovers that reality cannot be avoided and she must face the challenges of growing up. With its powerful music and imaginative storytelling, this show invites audiences to reconsider their understanding of identity and selfdiscovery.
When asked about the show, Jaidynn Simmons, who plays Alice Spencer, said, “As a senior, I relate to Alice in the sense that I don’t want to grow up and live life how I’m used to. I’ve experienced grief and loss and have had to learn how to overcome it, just like her. This show has been an incredible experience and I’m forever grateful to the amazing cast and my amazing directors for all their work.”
Tickets are available for purchase at Coiner Country Store in Buena Vista, online at pmtheatre. ludus.com or at the door prior to each performance.
“Alice By Heart” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorized performance materials are supplied by MTI.
