Happy Mothers’ Day to all this coming Sunday. High Bridge Presbyterian Church will collect the “noisy can” offering and have children’s church this Sunday. The Confirmation Class will break this week, and return to normal schedule next Sunday. The new members will join the church on the May 24, which is Pentecost Sunday.
Jane Widener of New Bern, N.C., mother and guest of daughter Kathy Gilbert, was a visitor this past Sunday at High Bridge.
Bettie Thomas, daughter of of Chris and Courtney Thomas, received word that she will be in the inaugural class of the New River Valley Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities this fall at Radford University. Bettie was also accepted into the arts program. Proud siblings include twin sister Audrey Marie and brother Charles Levi Thomas. Proud grandparents include Pat and Don Thomas, and Connie and Roy Powell.
Mark Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va., spent this weekend with parents Lloyd and Esther Pennington. Also, John Redmond of Madison revisited the area as well. Together they attended a celebration of life memorial service for Natural Bridge High School class member Chuck Seelke in Buena Vista.
Men’s Group will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the fellowship hall.
The afternoon circle meets Tuesday, May 12, with Sue Braford at 12:30 p.m. Bible study will be led by Connie Powell.
The last day of Sunday school this spring season will be May 17, and starting May 24, worship begins at 10 a.m. for the summer months.
The two adult Sunday school classes recently combined into one class taught by the Rev. Dr. Amy Willis. The subject is the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The Presbyterian Women’s mission for the second quarter is Lisa’s House. Donations can be dropped into the box at the narthex at church or delivered to Lisa’s House. Betsy Shepherd is the mission chairperson and will have a list of items needed.
Scholarship Sunday will be May 17. Christy Black is in charge of accepting applications for those moving on to middle school or high school or graduating high school or college.
The food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, and close at 11 a.m.
