Columnist’s Stand On Amendment Praised

March 30, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I agree with your columnist, Glenn Rose, that the current attempt to gerrymander our commonwealth is a matter of principle, and I am proud of him for not abandoning his.

Likewise, I will oppose any future efforts by Virginia Republicans to attempt such a stunt (with the government dominated Northern Virginia electorate becoming more and more supportive of more and more government, it’s hard for me to see when Republicans may ever get that chance. But, the world’s a funny place).

For some, abandoning principle is an acceptable price to pay for political power, especially for those who believe that only the acquisition of power, by whatever means necessary, stands in their way of governing with their superior principles. Mr. Rose will find himself in a distinct minority of his party, unwilling to emulate Trump for potential power, but good on him.
