The basketball season has been over for several weeks now, but postseason honors continue to roll in for members of the Parry McCluer High School boys.
On Monday of last week, PM’s Langston Cook and Nathan Glass were selected to the first team of the Basketball Coaches Association of Virginia All-Class 1 squad, adding to the long list of accolades the duo has already earned. Cook and Glass led the Blues to a 22-5 record, their third consecutive Pioneer District regular-season and tournament titles, the Region 1C finals, and their second straight Class 1 state quarterfinal appearance.
Cook, a junior guard, joins the team for the second straight season after averaging 27.8 points per contest this year. Cook, who was also selected to the BVAC all-conference squad, along with first-team All-Pioneer District, first-team All-Region 1C and first-team Class 1 all-state recognition, also led PM in rebounding (6.9 per game), assists (4.6) and steals (3.5).
Glass adds the BVAC distinction to his first-team all-district, first-team all-region and second- team all-state honors. The senior forward averaged 14.7 points per game while shooting nearly 65 percent from the floor this past season. He finished the season as the team leader in blocks, with 28, while grabbing 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.
Both PM players were named Scholar Athletes for maintaining a grade point average of 3.25 or higher.
Joining the PM pair on the first team were Owen Jackson and Kenton Sutphin of Fort Chiswell, along with Luray’s Matthew Owens and Connor Hilliard. Cade Caywood of Patrick Henry-Glade Spring and Chase Williams of Eastside rounded out the first team. Jackson was named the player of the year, while Luray’s Matt Huff was tapped as coach of the year.
