March 27, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: Virginia is a state that has different needs. Those that live in rural areas. Those that live in densely populated areas. The state needs to meet the needs of both areas. Their needs are certainly not the same! How can you put them all together?
Some things are better in the densely populated area, and some are better in the rural area. You need to be fair to both areas. Some people chose to live in the densely populated area and others chose to live in rural areas. You must take both into consideration without favoring one over the other. Don’t you know that variety is the spice of life and our differences make us better? It is not one way or the highway.
Some want a trial run that will be put into effect for three years. The cost would be high and taxpayers in the counties of Virginia would fit the bill. Spending state taxpayers’ money to do a trial run and it will have to be done again in three years after the census that is required by law. Why would you want to do it twice and spend our money now and in three years?
