Parry McCluer High School senior Langston Cook continued to pile up the honors for his outstanding junior campaign with a selection to the Basketball Coaches Association of Virginia All-Conference 2 team last week as both an athlete and a scholar.
The team is comprised of players representing all classifications, 1A to 6A, from Conference 2, which encompasses the Shenandoah Valley and is one of seven such conferences designated across the state. The BCAV all-state team will be announced later.
One of only two Class 1A players selected to the team by the association’s coaches, Cook led Parry McCluer to a 22-5 record and a second straight trip to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Averaging a team-leading 25.8 points per game, the junior shot 56 percent from the floor, scoring a total of 751 points this season and eclipsing the PMHS career scoring mark held previously by Adam Gilbert. Cook also led the team in rebounds (6.9), steals (3.1) and assists (4.6).
After earning his spot on the all-conference team for the second straight season, Cook was also designated as a recognized scholar athlete by earning a grade point average of 3.25 or above in the classroom.
Joining Cook on the All-Conference team first team was Christian Dinges of John Handley, who was named the Player of the Year. Other first-team selections included Mason McWhorter (Wilson Memorial), Matthew Owens (Luray), Gio Armendariz Cruz (Fort Defiance), Trey Moore (East Rockingham), Dereck Batiz Lugo (Central-Woodstock) and Riley Baker (Millbrook).
