March 2, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I hope all legal residents of Rockbridge County are aware of a very important election we may be facing, with early voting beginning on March 6 – 2 days from today (March 4)! It has to do with changing our House of Representatives voting districts, known as gerrymandering.
Democrats in our General Assembly have redesigned our current voting districts map to ensure their party wins 10 of our 11 representatives in the U.S. House, including giving blue Fairfax County (one county!) five of the 11 voting districts, and giving Republicans only one possible district in the entire commonwealth. Currently, Virginia has roughly six Democrat and five Republican districts.
If we do have this election here in Rockbridge County, it is extremely important that each of us goes out and votes against this gerrymandering. Think of your future and that of your family, as well as your community. Vote ... and vote no!
