Feb. 23, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: The actions of the current administration are affecting the legacy we leave our children and grandchildren.
Although not perfect, the United States we inherited was recognized as a stabilizing international force and a source of opportunity for its citizens and immigrants.
This administration, in concert with a Republican Congress, is eroding this legacy. Assaults on the environment and science, education and the arts, public health and social welfare, legal immigrants and private citizens, the judicial system and voting rights, as well as international trade and alliances, undermine all elements of our society.
This fall, on the 250th anniversary of our democracy, our votes can help to reclaim the legacy we leave to future generations. FRANK SETTLE Lexington
