Four PM Girls All-District

Thes Pioneer District named its all-district girls basketball team at the conclusion of the league’s tournament on Feb. 19, and, after its surprising run to the championship game, the Blues landed four players on the honor squad.

Leading the way was senior guard Kayleigh Ramsey, who was tapped for firstteam accolades. Junior guard Emory Slagle and sophomore forward Josie Martinez were both selected to the all-district second team, while freshman guard Caroline Watts was named all-district honorable mention.

Ramsey finished the regular season scoring just over 10 points per game and was tied for the team lead in steals with 37. She grabbed 58 rebounds and dished out 28 assists on the year.

Slagle also had 37 steals for the Blues through the regular season to go along with her 65 assists, which was tops on the team. Hitting 22 three-pointers during the regular season, Slagle averaged nearly six points per game and grabbed almost four rebounds per contest.

M artinez was PM’s leading rebounder and scorer, pulling down nearly eight caroms per game and scoring at a clip of 10.4 points per contest. She also finished the regular season with 16 blocked shots.

Watts tallied 4.6 points per game during the regular season. She also finished the year with 75 rebounds, 29 assists and 27 steals.

Under the direction of Adam Gilbert, in his 16th year as PM’s head coach, the Blues went 5-5 in the district to earn the third seed. After cruising to a 42-20 win over sixth-seeded Highland County in the district quarterfinals, they upset secondseeded Eastern Montgomery 46-42 in overtime in the semifinals the following night before falling to top seed Narrows 55-25 in the championship game. The Blues concluded their season with a 50-25 home loss to Grayson County in the Region 1C quarterfinals on Tuesday of last week, finishing with a record of 10-14.
