First Baptist Church in downtown Lexington is celebrating African American Heritage Month with a series of events.
This Sunday, Feb. 15, during the morning worship, Eric Wilson, executive director of the Rockbridge Historical Society, will give a talk entitled, "African American Leadership in American Armed Forces."
On Feb. 22, retired professor and local historian Neely Young will discuss Davy Buck, an enslaved person born in the early 1770s who served as the sexton of Lexington Presbyterian Church and became a member of the church in 1852.
The African American Heritage Month activities will conclude with a complimentary Soul Food luncheon following the March 1 service.
