Feb. 4, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: Reacting to abusive searches by British troops before the Revolution, our Founding Fathers inserted the Fourth Amendment into the US Constitution.
Essential to Americans as a free people, it protects us against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government by requiring judicial warrants supported by probable cause. These warrants must explicitly describe the place, persons, or items sought by the government’s agents. ICE is systematically and wantonly violating the Fourth Amendment and, hence, our freedom.
