Feb. 6, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: Today I sent an email to Congressman Ben Cline’s office requesting that he publicly denounce the blatantly racist meme depicting the Obamas as apes that Donald Trump posted on his social media outlet Thursday night.
Now Congressman Cline is an outspoken defender of President Trump so he may be reluctant to accede to my request but this should not be a difficult decision. He can choose to stand by his man and say nothing or make the honorable decision to condemn Donald Trump’s racism. His choice will be a reflection of his character. EDWARD GRIMES Rockbridge County
