Jan. 12, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: 2026 could be the year when the U.S. promotes the spread of representative governments in the Western Hemisphere, either by offering statehood to most Central American countries, and a good chunk of Canada, while converting dictatorships like Nicaragua into a representative democracy, Greenland into a U.S. sovereign territory and the rest of South America into a permanent South Atlantic Treaty Organization (SATO). Meanwhile, NATO can come to its senses and realize that the United States is their only hope to resist Chinese and Russian Communist subversion of Western European free societies. DON HENKE Goshen
