Jan. 29, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: After trudging down to the mailbox yesterday to get my copy of The News-Gazette, I read an interesting letter to the editor.
It was penned by Howard Pendley and entitled “If Harris Had Won Presidential Election.” He offers up 18 scenarios that he believes would be radically different if Harris had been elected. Mr. Pendley is obviously an anti-Trumper and that’s fine as is his opinion. Although I disagree with almost all of his assertions, I found the letter well-written and passionate.
However, Mr. Pendley left out one glaring omission in his list of grievances that would prove catastrophic: Tim Walz would be the vice president of the United States. In one of his 18 points he uses the term “feckless clowns.” Tim, if the shoe fits, wear it. DANNY HOEHNE Rockbridge County
