How
Global Warming Works
Feb. 2, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: Take a pan of water and heat it over a low setting. Notice how there is barely a ripple on the surface. Now turn up the heat a bit. Notice the surface is more active. More heat and more activity.
Instead of a pan of water, apply the same logic to the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. More heat, more activity, bigger swirls meaning colder in the South in winter and hotter in the North in summer. Also, longer fire seasons, more floods in some areas and droughts in others.
Saying that one cold snap means there is no global warming shows that the people saying that have as much grasp of thermodynamics as a concussed bee.
Maybe if there was a Go-FundMe page to raise more money than the fossil fuel industries donate to policy makers something would get done to stop the planet getting even hotter.
Need further convincing – talk to your kids and grandkids. They’re the ones who will have to deal with the consequences. The oil industry executives making the big bucks are old guys who will probably be dead by the time it gets really bad. JOHN EKIN Rockbridge Baths
