Jan. 19,2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I appreciate that the U.S.A. has immigration laws, and that people who want to move here from a foreign land must follow these laws, which includes assimilating into the American culture. And yet, how many letters to this newspaper have focused on demeaning the government employees who enforce our immigration laws?
It’s now fact that the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good was hit by her car, with her as the driver. So, are you okay with that? Or should the agent just have fallen down and let her run over his body, perhaps killing him? What reason did she have to do this? The ICE agent was doing his job — to enforce our immigration law. Good wasn’t an illegal, and the agent wasn’t after her!
The first thing our new governor (a Democrat) does is direct that our state/local police not work with ICE – our federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Is Governor Spanberger inviting any and all illegals to come to our state?
If you’re against our immigration laws, then change them the right way — get our Congress to change the law — and I pray this never happens! SUSAN WOOD Glasgow
