MLK Parade Next Monday

Editor, The News-Gazette: As a bright new year opens before us, we ask you to mark your calendars for the seventh annual CARE Rockbridge Martin Luther King Jr. Community Parade, stepping off Monday, Jan. 16, at 10:30 a.m. in front of Randolph Street United Methodist Church, at 118 S. Randolph St. in Lexington. Please also remind friends and neighbors to join us as we take to the streets to show our conviction that justice, love, and equality are the driving values in any place worth living.

Although last year’s parade was unfortunately cancelled for snow, with a little cooperation from Mother Nature, this Monday, we’ll once again cover the MLK parade loop, singing and chanting, full of joy, demonstrating the revolutionary power of nonviolent action for a better community.

We turn out year after year, undaunted by the ugly politics in the wider world, celebrating Dr. King’s transformative legacy of nonviolent direct action and putting ourselves forward as the evidence that inclusive community is, in fact, the very best kind. Let’s make 2023 a record year!

We’ll have transportation to permit participation for those with mobility concerns. We ask that all signs respect our family-friendly atmosphere and are made of crushable material. Of course, neither symbols of white supremacy, nor weapons of any kind are permitted in the parade.

For updates, consult our website at carerockbridge.org our Facebook event page: https:// fb.me/e/46iTNoJrf.

Cocoa and soup will follow the parade at Lexington Presbyterian church.

CARE is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization sustained by the contributions of our community members.

We’ll see you there!

The REV. REGINARD A. EARLY President, CARE Rockbridge
