Notes On Biden History

Nov. 22, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I am writing to correct some errors in Mike Lowry’s column entitled “Whatever Happened to the Democrat Party” (Nov. 12).

The name of the British politician is misspelled Neil Kennick. The correct spelling is Neil Kinnock. And Joe Biden did not run for president in 1976. He ran for president during the 1988 Democratic presidential primary. It was exposed in September 1987 that Biden had plagiarized Kinnock’s speech. As a result of the negative publicity surrounding his plagiarism of the speech and also his misrepresenting his own academic record, Biden was forced to suspend his presidential campaign in September 1987.
