Did You Know The Library Does All This?

Dec. 1, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Yesterday being Giving Tuesday, the Rockbridge Regional Library Foundation is holding its annual fundraising appeal. In years past we have stressed the importance of reading, the sheer volumes of books for patrons, and the sense of community which the library fosters.

However, did you know? - The main branch in Lexington is a passport acceptance agency, handling all aspects of obtaining and renewing passports, and it provides notary services.

- Technology coordinator Shane Clarke visits all branches to offer technology assistance to any individual who has requested an appointment.

- The bookmobile visits all branches, travels to various locations within Rockbridge and Bath counties on specified dates and participates in community events. In addition, outreach staff offer programs at area assisted living facilities.

- All branches provide preschool and children’s programs such as story time, club activities, and teen author workshops.

- The Goshen and Glasgow branches have a preschool in the library. The Goshen library provides a clothes closet for those in need and a giving tree at Christmas.

- The Glasgow branch has a local history center, offers programs such as the 611 train, NASA and local authors. It is also a polling center.

- The Buena Vista branch has a chat and craft program that meets monthly and is open to all. The Buena Vista Children’s Library offers children’s book club.

- While Fairfield does not have a branch, there are lockers located at the rescue squad for patrons to pick up and drop off their reserved books. The bookmobile also makes regular stops at Dotties.

Our library system is truly a community treasure, and the Foundation is proud to support its many programs. The RRLF has provided over $2,000,000 since 1992 through annual distributions. This year’s distribution, which enhances the generosity of state and local governments, is $102,666.

We ask that your readers to consider a generous contribution when they receive the appeal letter. If for some reason they do not receive a letter, donations may be made online (www.rrlib. net) or via check to Rockbridge Regional Library Foundation, 138 S. Main St. Lexington, VA 24450. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. MIKE STRICKLER Vice president, Rockbridge Regional Library Foundation
