Nov. 14, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: When my family first moved here five years ago, we were surprised and disheartened by the low turnout for local Veterans Day events. As a military family, it was difficult to understand how a community that proudly hosts one of our nation’s senior military colleges could have such limited participation in honoring those who served.
This year was different. Thanks to the leadership and vision of Bob Hopkins, the 2025 Veterans Day event in Lexington was spectacular. The crowd was large, engaged, and full of community spirit. Families, students, cadets, veterans, and civic leaders came together in a shared moment of gratitude and remembrance.
Events like this matter. They remind us that freedom is not free, recognize the sacrifice of military veterans, and inspire future generations to a life of service.
If you see Bob Hopkins, please thank him for his incredible work in organizing this year’s ceremony. And to all who attended, thank you for being part of this memorable event.
Most of all, thank you, veterans, for your service to our country. You did what the majority of Americans would not, and for that, we are eternally grateful. HANNAH BECKER Buena Vista
