Nov. 14, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Our 6th District congressional representative, Ben Cline, serves on the important House Judiciary Committee. A prestigious appointment, how effective has Cline’s service been?
Since early 2025 and the arrival of the Trump administration in Washington, more than 5,000 Department of Justice legal professionals, including attorneys, have left their jobs, many citing concerns about unethical and illegal directives under Attorney General Pam Bondi. The department is struggling to find qualified replacements. This mass exodus raises alarms about the DOJ’s long-term capacity to uphold legal standards and effectively prosecute federal crimes.
Shedding the department of so much experience should deeply concern someone on the Judiciary Committee. Yet, Mr. Cline, an attorney himself, has not publicly addressed the problem in either word or deed.
His silence speaks volumes. Lexington, Rockbridge, and Buena Vista deserve better. JAY CLARKE Rockbridge County
