Let's look at some Classifieds!

Before there were apps like Zillow and Realtor.com, before Facebook Marketplace, before E-vites and group text messages, there was the Classified section of the newspaper. When someone wanted to sell their car or advertise their plumbing business, they put an ad in the paper. If you were looking for a job or housing prospects, you checked the classifieds. It was also where you would find 'Cards of Thanks' and 'In Memoriam' submissions. 

Here are some highlights from the May 29, 1968 Classified Section: 

--First Page--

Attention Fishermen: We have plenty of large, fat, red worms

Must Sacrifice: Going into service. 1968 GTO, yellow with black vinyl top.

Kittens: Attractive, intelligent, charming personalities, excellent mousers, wonderful pets. Will give only to good homes. 

Nine Room House: With 13 acres. 2 1/2 miles from Natural Bridge, 1 1/2 miles from Interstate Interchange. House has 2 baths and basement. Water by gravity from spring, fruit trees, and outbuildings. All for $12,600.

Permanent: Position open for a young man that would like to be a printer. Must have a high school education and like to work with machinery. Apply at The News-Gazette, Lexington.
