Halestone Dance Studio will present its fall performance, “Behind the Curtain,” this Saturday, Nov. 15, outside of its Main Street studio.

The performance, which starts at 2 p.m., will feature original choreography and direction by Artistic Coordinator Kathleen Gale, as well as teaching artists Corrina Allen, Brian Hernandez, Stephanie Hodde, Brittany Klinger, Caroline Lauck, Virginia Newman, and Raeanna Simcoe, with collaborative choreography by students in the company ensembles.

“Behind the Curtain” is a showcase of Halestone Dance Studio’s current classes and their hard work so far this year. The performance will be a peak into the creative process, more like a back to school night or a progress checkpoint. Teaching artists will give more insight into their classes through descriptions in the program and speaking to the audience during the show.

According to Kathleen Gale, “When audiences watch a performance, they usually see the final layer, the polished version with precision, costumes, and all the finishing touches. But behind the scenes there exists a world of exploration, vulnerability and collaboration. ‘Behind the Curtain’ invites you into that world.

“This production,” she continued, “offers a glimpse into the questions we ask, the risks we take, and the moments of chaos and clarity that shape our work. The dancers bring their own voices and ideas into the process, shaping the movement and meaning together. By sharing this part of the artistic process, Halestone hopes the audience gains a deeper understanding of how a piece comes to life through curiosity, experimentation, and connection.”

One of the central pieces of the performance, by Halestone’s Senior Company, “Familiar Arrangements” reflects a core part of what Halestone believes dance education should be about: connection.

“After class, no one’s in a hurry to leave,” said Gale. “Dancers linger in the lobby, sinking into familiar furniture, their voices mixing with laughter and soft conversation. That everyday connection, built over time, is just as much a part of their time in the studio. Inspired by those in-between moments, this piece uses furniture from our own lobby to bring to life how movement connects us beyond the studio.”

Halestone’s studio is located at 722 S. Main St. There will be refreshments before and during intermission. Guests are asked to bring a blanket or chair to sit on, consider this time of year and layer up on clothing to enjoy the show.

Tickets are available for $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 5-16. Children aged 4 and under attend for free and do not need a ticket. Tickets can be purchased in advance at https://www.halestone. com/events-1/behind-the-curtain or at the performance. Proceeds from ticket sales support Halestone’s educational programming, and scholarships for dancers.
