Jesse Lyons Appointed to Fill Open Council Seat

During its regular business meeting last night, Lexington City Council unanimously appointed Jesse Lyons to fill an open council seat through the end of the year.

The seat was left vacant when David Sigler assumed the role of interim mayor of Lexington following the passing of Frank Friedman last month. Lyons will fill the seat through the remainder of the term, which expires on Dec. 31. He was one of seven applicants put forth and considered by council to fill the seat.

Lyons has been employed by the Kappa Alpha Order and the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation in Lexington since 2002 and currently holds the position of Chief External Affairs Officer with that organization. He was also selected to oversee the renovation project for Courthouse Square in Lexington, which was completed earlier this year.

In his application for the open council seat, Lyons said that he was applying because “local governance needs steady, informed judgment between elections, and I have the time, relationships, and institutional knowledge to help.” He also noted that he has more than two decades of experience in “navigating complex organizational challenges nationally, rooted in this community, [and] I want to put that to work for the city, and I find real joy in serving.”
