The Rockbridge County News
Flashback Friday

We're looking back before we were The News-Gazette.

The Rockbridge County News Thursday Feb. 21, 1962.

A copy of this issue was only five cents!

There are more headlines on the front page than there are in today's newspapers, but not all stories continue on other pages. The articles don't seem to feature authors' names. The type is also much smaller and the pages are wider.

Hospital Starts Plans for New Nursing Home - Stonewall Jackson Hospital started on plan for nursing home on grounds, but the hospital's CPA was concerned about the financial situation from the pervious year's losses.

Council Studies Land Purchase for Cemetery Use - The Lexington City Council proposed buying land for the cemetery being operated by the M. S. McCoy estates. The article also included other topics of discussion during that city council meeting.

Myers Named New Burlington Head - Charles F. Meyers Jr. became president of the national company Burlington Industries Inc. It was a dispatch from New York but published locally because his father, Rev. Charles F. Meyers, D. D. was a native of Lexington and an alumnus of Washington and Lee University.

Glasgow Crew Seeks Support - The Glasgow Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc. was asking the community it serves for donations. The organization doesn't charge for it's services and therefore accrued a debt of almost $3,700. At the time of printing, the organization had only received 80 replies from 1300 letters.

Photos of wedding announcements are included at the bottom, along with many ads about sales for George Washington's Birthday.
