World Communion Sunday was observed on Oct. 5 at the Collierstown United Methodist C hurch. T his w eek fi nal preparations for the church’s 185th homecoming will be completed with members gathering tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 9, at 9 a.m. at the church. The homecoming worship service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12. The Rev. Doug Forrester will deliver the morning’s sermon. The Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church’s congregation will join with Collierstown for worship on this special Sunday.
The Effinger Community churches and the Effinger Volunteer Fire Department will hold a “trunk or treat” event on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the firehouse parking lot. This year’s event will be filled with treats and lots of fun. Church members will be in decorated cars handing out candy to the community’s children. Participating churches include the Collierstown Baptist, Collierstown Presbyterian, Collierstown United Methodist, Mt. Horeb United Methodist, Oxford Presbyterian, Rapps Church and the Union View Advent Christian Church.
The Collierstown Presbyterian Church observed World Communion Sunday on Sunday, Oct. 5. Preparations have begun at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church for the church’s annual dinner that will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Country ham, fried oysters and turkey dinners will be available for dining in or for taking out. All meals include homemade bread, homecooked vegetables, slices of cake and a choice of beverages. There will be a bazaar in the red building on the church grounds that patrons will want to visit. Bazaar favorites include crafts, homemade breads, baked goods, fresh homemade soups and other specialty items. Sales from the bazaar will benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Rockbridge County.
Two building and grounds cleanup days for members and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, and on Friday, Oct. 31. Work will begin at 9 a.m. on the church grounds and in the fellowship hall. The members of the congregation are looking
