Prediction

Parry McCluer (2-1) at Stonewall Jackson (0-3)

WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday WHERE: Dick Krol Field at Generals Stadium in Quicksburg, Va.. Tickets are $7.

LAST MEETING: Parry McCluer sprinted out to a 48-0 halftime lead and held Stonewall Jackson to just 84 yards of total offense to cruise to a 55-0 victory in Buena Vista. The PM defense held the Generals to just five first downs, recorded two quarterback sacks and boasted 25 total tackles from linebackers Jacob Shafer (13) and Parker Snider (12). At safety, Nathan Glass also returned an interception for a touchdown. Jackson Brockenbrough led the Parry McCluer offense, which piled up 260 yards rushing in the contest, with 125 yards and two touchdowns.

SCOUTING THE GENERALS: Stonewall Jackson is still looking for its first victory of the 2025 season after losing a heartbreaker last Friday night, when Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology intercepted a pass after a blocked field goal on the final play of the game and returned it 84 yards for a TD to defeat the Generals, 20-14. Stonewall Jackson surrenders an average of nearly 30 points per game. Offensively, quarterback Brayden Hedrick, a junior, leads the way. He passed for 118 yards last Friday, and his favorite target through the first two games has been senior receiver K.O. Franklin. Injuries have forced senior Carlos Garcia-Romero to take on the bulk of the ball carrying duties. He caught five passes out of the backfield in last Friday’s game, which saw the two teams combine for 30 penalties.

SCOUTING THE BLUES: Parry McCluer saw a lot of yellow flags thrown in its direction in its 35-7 loss to James River last Friday as the Blues were whistled for 15 penalties in Buchanan, 14 in the first half. That hampered Parry McCluer’s running game, which managed only 132 yards. However, quarterback Nathan Glass enjoyed his best game of the season, completing 15 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. That was much different from the Blues’ balanced attack in their first two games, both victories. PM’s defense did little to help. The Blues gave up 21 points in the third quarter and surrendered 297 rushing yards to James River running back Gavin Binns.

THE NEWS-GAZETTE’S PICK: Friday night will mark the sixth meeting between the Blues and Generals, with Parry McCluer winning all the previous five by an average margin of victory of nearly 35 points. This Friday will not be much different. Motivated by the loss to James River, the Blues will shut down the Stonewall offense and bounce back with a 41-6 victory.
