Southern Virginia University Theatre program will present “Sondheim Tribute Revue,” a spectacular musical journey through the iconic songs and life of Stephen Sondheim, a man who reshaped the stage and redefined the American musical.
The revue will run Sept. 27-28 and Oct. 1-3 at Southern Virginia University’s Performing Arts Center, showcasing the wit, complexity and emotional depth of one of Broadway’s most influential voices.
Directed by Broadway touring performer and SVU Theatre professor Dallyn Vail Bayles, with musical direction by Lisa Knudson, the revue features a curated selection of songs from Sondheim’s most iconic works. including “Into the Woods,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Company, “A Little Night Music,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and the recent Tony Award winning revival of “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Said Bayles, “Stephen Sondheim is widely acknowledged as the most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. This revue is both a celebration of his life and genius, and an exploration of the themes of love, loss, the creative process, and the importance of family and relationships that continue to resonate with audiences today.”
