Ph.D In Civil Engineering — Dr. Alan Smith (right) was hooded by Dr. Rodrigo Sarlo, associate professor of civil engineering, in commencement ceremonies May 14 at Virginia Tech. Smith was awarded a docatorate in civil engineering. Smith, who also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Virginia Tech, is employed by SGH Engineering in Waltham, Mass. A 2014 graduate of Parry McCluer High School, he is the son of Ed and Becca Smith of Buena Vista.
