First Baptist Celebrates Anniversaries
First Baptist Church in Lexington will celebrate the 158th anniversary of the church and seventh anniversary of Pastor McKinley Williams on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The guest speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. George Smith, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Philadelphia, and there will be lunch served between services.
At 3 p.m. the guests will be the Bishop Michael Turner and the choirs and congregation of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Staunton.
-The anniversary celebrations continue with rededication services at First Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The church sanctuary and downstairs fellowship hall has been refurbished and renovated. Also to be rededicated is the History Room, Clothing Closet, African American Mini Art Gallery, kitchen and new closets and walkway leading to the downstairs.
The guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Michael Owens, senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of San Bernardino, Calif. The morning worship begins at 11 a.m.

The church was organized a few years after the Civil War ended and is currently the oldest independent African American Church in the area.
