Local fire and rescue crews responded to several vehicle accidents on the eastbound side of Interstate 64 between the Goshen and Lexington exits Wednesday evening. In total, four incidents occurred.
According to a Facebook post from Kerrs Creek Fire and Rescue, Kerrs Creek crews were dispatched to a reported multiple vehicle collision with entrapment at mile marker 43 just before 6 p.m. While en route to the scene, a report of a second multiple vehicle incident at mile marker 44 with a rollback truck over the embankment was reported. Kerrs Creek diverted to that scene while crews from Goshen Volunteer Fire Department and Goshen Rescue Squad responded to the first incident.
The rollback truck was found approximately 50-75 feet over the embankment and the driver rescued without injury, according to the Facebook post.
While at the scene of that incident, two additional incidents were reported – one at mile marker 46 and one at mile marker 53. Kerrs Creek reported to mile marker 46, finding an SUV on the side of the road that had flipped multiple times. Lexington Fire Department responded to the incident at mile marker 53.
Deputies from the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office also responded to all four incidents.
In total, six individuals were transported to the hospital for various injuries and an additional two people were treated at the scene.
Heavy rain in the area at the time may have contributed to the incidents.
