Nyes Top Regional Recognitions

RC Girls Lacrosse Team Dominates Local Postseason Honors

Twelve Rockbridge County High School lacrosse players received all-region honors two weeks ago, while nine Parry McCluer High School softball players and five PM baseball players were named all-district. Last week, four PM softball players and two PM baseball players were named all-region while one RC girls soccer player was selected to the all-region second team.

For the RC girls lacrosse team, sophomore midfielder Anna Nye was named Region 4D player of the year, and her mother, seventh-year head coach Susan Nye, was selected as Region 4D coach of the year.

Anna Nye collected her 100th ground ball on Friday, tallied 11 points, six goals and five assists, in the regional finals. In late May, she scored her 100th career goal.

Joining Anna Nye on the all-region first team were sophomore midfielder Emma McKnight, senior defender Emily Humphreys, junior defender Nada Gaydos, and three attackers: senior Josie Caldwell, junior Lola Mulitalo and sophomore Ruby Goodhart. Mulitalo broke the RC career goal-scoring record earlier this season before dishing out her 100th career assist in the Wildcats’ 23-6 Class 4 state quarterfinal win over Powhatan on June 6.

RC sophomore attacker Emma Johnson made the all-region second team. Wildcats named all-region honorable mention were sophomore defenders Tadara Cooper and Braelyn Polly and senior goalie Alyssa Hunter, who signed a national letter of intent this spring to play Division III lacrosse for Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg.

For the RC boys lacrosse team, senior attackman John Brooke was named to the all-region second team.

From the RC girls soccer team, senior forward Lucy Boller-Pinkham was named to the all-region second team.

The PM softball team had four players named to the all-district first team: sophomore second baseman Kendall Painter and three seniors: third baseman Olivia Julian, center fielder Logan Vest and pitcher Alysa Wheeler. Vest and Julian were selected to the all-region first team, while Painter and Wheeler made the allregion second team.

Julian, who was also a pitcher, is headed to play softball for West Virginia University Potomac State College, a Division II national junior college in Keyser, W. Va.

Blues making the all-district second team were senior shortstop Natalie Mohler and two freshmen, catcher Sophie Chittum and third baseman Jordyn Hostetter. Junior right fielder Kinleigh Wallace and freshman first baseman Patience Hill were named all-district honorable mention.

For the PM baseball team, senior outfielder and pitcher Braedyn Houck was named Pioneer District player of the year. Houck had a batting average of .379, with 25 hits, six doubles, 16 runs and 10 RBS. He went 26-of-26 on stolen bases.

Houck and senior shortstop Brayden Holdren were selected to the all-district first team and the all-region second team. Holdren’s batting average was .310, with 18 hits, four doubles, five triples, one home run, 10 runs and 11 RBIs.

Senior shortstop Peyton Ramsey was named to the all-district second team as a pitcher. Ramsey pitched 32.1 innings, going 1-4, striking out 42 while allowing 29 walks and 15 earned runs. His earned run average was 3.25.

Blues named all-district honorable mention were freshman second baseman Colby Camden and sophomore left fielder Kyler Ramsey. Camden had a batting average of .235, with 12 runs and eight RBIs. Ramsey’s batting average was .214, with 11 runs and eight RBIs.
