AG Candidate’s Message Contrasted WithTrump Saudi Trip

AGCandidate’s Message Contrasted WithTrump SaudiTrip

May 16, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I had an eye popping moment yesterday. I have been an avid observer of politics and current events for about five decades, partially because I lived ‘inside the Beltway’ for half my life. I try to see all sides of an issue before I make a determination. For instance, I read daily The Washington Post, The New York Post, Fox News, and when I really want to insert bamboo shoots under my fingernails … The Huffington Post. I daily tune in to cable news, always starting with MSNBC and then flipping over to Fox News to compare coverage.

I am often in awe at how at completely at odds the channels are. Almost like two totally opposite universes. Both bias, obviously, but MSNBC is forging ahead at a ferocious rate.

Yesterday, during coverage of Trump’s highly anticipated trip to Saudi Arabia and Qatar (broadcast on Fox News, but largely ignored by MSNBC) the president was greeted royally with fighter jet escorts alongside Air Force One, as well as beautiful Arabian horses escorting the presidential limo down the entrance street. Very impressive visuals, to say the least.

During the day, the president signed a one trillion dollar deal for Saudi investments in the US, announced a Boeing contract to sell Qatar 160 jets (their biggest contract in history), signed a huge 142 billion dollar weapons sale to the Saudis (also the biggest in history), lifted sanctions on Syria as well as met with its president (the first time in 25 years), and offered Iran an olive branch. Meanwhile there were side meetings with the Russians and Ukranians.

While this is being televised, up pops a political ad from Democrat Shannon Taylor who is running for Attorney General of Virginia. Her message while shrilly yapping to the camera was ‘we will defeat Trump and Musk.’

Really?! This is the Democrats’ message to solidify and motivate their party and move our country positively forward? DANNY HOEHNE Rockbridge County
