W&L Women’s Lax Falls
The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee University women’s lacrosse team saw its postseason run come to a close on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Round of 16, falling 18-10 to sixth-ranked Gettysburg College in the regional semifinal hosted at Shadek Stadium on the campus of Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, Pa.
The Generals concluded the 2025 season with an 18-5 overall record, capturing their 25th Old Dominion Athletic Conference title and marking their sixth consecutive appearance in the national round of 16. Gettysburg went on to beat No. 10 Denison University 16-13 in the quarterfinals on Sunday, improving to 19-3.
In Saturday’s game, W&L started strong, as Lara Baki netted the opening goal just 25 seconds into the contest. The Generals traded punches with the Bullets early, tying the game at 2-2 midway through the first quarter on a woman-up goal by Betty Boatwright, but Gettysburg closed the period with a three-goal run to lead 4-2 after one.
The second quarter featured an offensive surge from both sides. W&L trimmed the deficit to 7-5 on goals by Emma Marsh, Katie Reed and Caroline Foster but Gettysburg answered with a pair of scores in the final two minutes to carry a 10-6 advantage into halftime. The Bullets extended their lead with a 4-1 burst to open the third, effectively putting the game out of reach despite late efforts by Boatwright, Cat Caples and Baki, who cut the margin to 15-10 with three minutes to play. Gettysburg closed with three unanswered goals.
W&L had six different goal scorers, led by Reed and Boatwright, who each tallied two goals and one assist. Baki also scored twice, while Marsh, Foster, Caples and Hannah Van Son each added one goal. Claire Horner distributed two assists.
Caples led the Generals with six draw controls, while Marsh had four. Libby Ford picked up a team-best four ground balls and caused two turnovers. In goal, Iman Haddad made 10 saves.
Guiding the Generals was thirdyear head coach Maddie Coleman, a 2008 Rockbridge County High School graduate who won a national championship as a player for Gettysburg College.

Tennis Bows Out
The No. 42 Washington and Lee women’s tennis team concluded its season with a 4-0 loss to secondranked Emory in the NCAA Division III Championship Round of 16 on Sunday at the W&L courts in Lexington.
The Generals, under the direction of 13th-year head coach Erin Ness, finished 18-6, while the Eagles improved to 17-5. Earlier this month, W&L defeated Averett 4-0 to win its 22nd consecutive ODAC title on May 4 in Lexington.
Four Generals Advance
Four W&L track and field athletes, two men and two women, have qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, which will be held in Geneva, Ohio this Thursday through Saturday.
For the men, W&L juniors Keaton Rush and Evan Langhammer qualified. Rush, a Devon, Pa. native, is heading to the national meet for the first time in his career after qualifying in the 10,000-meter run. He delivered a record-breaking performance in early April, shattering both the program and ODAC records in the event at the Bison Outdoor Classic, clocking a time of 29:37.51 – the seventh-fastest time in Division III this season.
Langhammer, a Roanoke native, is making his second trip to the national meet in the pole vault after qualifying as a rookie in 2023. He finished in a tie for fourth place that year, earning First Team All-American honors after clearing a height of 4.6 meters. This season, Langhammer ranks eighth in Division III in the event after clearing a meet-record height of 5.03 meters (16 feet, 6 inches) at the ODAC Outdoor Championships on April 25 in Harrisonburg.
Rush will kick off the national meet on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., while Langhammer will round out the competition on Saturday at noon.
W&L women qualifying were senior Camille Gillum and sophomore Olivia Warr.
Gillum, a Mountain Brook, Ala. native, is making her second trip to the national meet this year, having previously qualified in the high jump during the indoor season. She set a new program record and posted the 11thbest mark in Division III by clearing a height of 1.68-meters (5 feet, 5 inches) en route to a conference title and First Team All-ODAC honors at the ODAC Championships.
Warr, a Middleburg native, earned a berth in the 1,500 m after posting her qualifying mark at Monday’s Final Qualifier at Widener University, clocking a time of 4:28.85. This marks her second appearance at the national meet after previously qualifying in the 3,000-meter run during the indoor season. Warr captured a pair of ODAC titles in the 1500 and 5000-meter runs, earning First Team All-ODAC honors in both events.
Warr will kick off the national meet on Thursday in the preliminaries which are slated for 5:50 p.m. The 1500-meter finals are set for 1:35 p.m. on Saturday. Gillum will compete on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
