May 9, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: In Mike Lowry’s hurry to sell his heritage for a mess of pottage (see Genesis 25), citing investment stats, once again, he was a little precipitous, as GDP is down .3 in the first quarter.
But in all his celebration about investment, there’s no concern about Trump trampling due process, free speech, a free press, deporting U.S. citizens by using the Alien Enemies Act when we are not at war, sending masked ICE agents to kick in doors to arrest the wrong people and ignoring court orders, allowing Musk, who does/ doesn’t work for the government, to rummage through Social Security records and then, having no actual authority, firing thousands of government workers. Is he for canceling cancer and Alzheimer’s research, cutting Medicaid, VA money, and so much more — all for a $5 trillion tax cut for the top 1%, which will be added to the deficit he’s worried about? Or doesn’t he read the papers?
Is he good with Laura Loomer, the internet nut, deciding the fourstar general in charge of U.S. intelligence should be fired, or Hegseth talking about battle plans on unsecured phones, and then lying about it? And Trump lying about it? Or Kennedy Jr. lying about vaccines?
Not a peep from him on any of this stuff. How about Trump dialing the Atlantic journalist after 1 a.m. and telling him, “I rule the country. I rule the world.” Is he good with being ruled? His fellow citizens aren’t.
