Jenkins’ Law License Revoked

Jared Jenkins, former attorney for the city of Lexington and the town of Goshen, has had his license to practice law in the state of Virginia revoked by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board on April 25 for “violating professional rules that govern fairness to opposing party and counsel, as well as bar admission and disciplinary matters.”

Jenkins originally had his license suspended for nine months following a disciplinary hearing in Rockbridge County Circuit Court in January 2024, where he was found to be in violation of two rules of the Virginia State Bar’s rules for conduct.

They were rule 8.2 (making false allegations against the court) in relation to comments he made about Rockbridge County Circuit Court Judge Christopher Russell following a ruling by the judge in a case involving a land trust, and rule 3.4d (failure to follow a court ruling) for failing to pay fines resulting from those rulings and comments in a timely manner.

Both of those violations stemmed from statements Jenkins made while arguing in a land trust case in 2022. Jenkins had his privilege to appear in Rockbridge County Circuit Court revoked in October of 2022.

Several other rule violations were alleged at that hearing related to money he took from the account of the Mann Legal Group in November of 2022, but the three-judge panel ruled that the state did not meet the burden of proof on those violations.

Jenkins appealed his suspension and a stay was issued pending further review from the Virginia Supreme Court. In November, the Virginia Supreme Court affirmed the judgment and certified the order to circuit court where it went into effect on Jan. 3.

Jenkins stepped down as the city attorney for Lexington in November 2022, after he left the Mann Legal Group following the revocation of his circuit court privileges and the incident with the money (the city’s contract was with the legal group, not with Jenkins himself). He continued to serve as the town attorney for Goshen until he resigned from the Virginia State Bar last August, at which point he also resigned as the town attorney.
