Lexington
Next week, Lexington will begin moving forward with a plan to prevent trucks from hitting the traffic signal on the northeast corner of the intersection of Main and Nelson streets, City Manager Tom Carroll told the City Council during its regular meeting last Thursday.
To help trucks avoid hitting that traffic signal going forward, the handicap parking space in front of the Bank of the James will be removed and several other spaces shifted toward the north to allow a wider area for trucks to potentially turn. One of the five spaces will become a handicap parking space to replace the current one. A planter will also be installed by the light which should be struck first should a truck fail to make a wide enough turn.
Work on this plan will begin next week, and after it is completed the temporary barriers that have been set up along Nelson Street will be removed.
