College Roundup: W&L’s Women’’s Golfers Win ODAC, SVU and W&L Women’s Track And Field Team Claim Conference Crowns

W&L Women’s Golfers Win ODAC Crown

The No. 15-ranked Washington and Lee University women's golf team secured its seventh consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship last Wednesday afternoon, completing a wire-to-wire victory at the Stoney Creek Golf Course at Wintergreen Resort (par-72, 5,676 yards) in Nellysford.

The Generals carded rounds of 302-299-316—917 (+53) to finish eight strokes ahead of the runner-up, No. 16 Randolph-Macon College (925, +61) and earn the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.

Despite a challenging final day, W&L's consistency and depth throughout the tournament helped secure the title after building a 17-stroke lead over Randolph-Macon through the front nine. That cushion allowed the Generals to continue playing aggressively on the back nine, which featured six of the tournament's most difficult holes, while still maintaining control of the leaderboard.

The Generals led the field in par-3 scoring (3.15 avg, +9), par-5 scoring (5.07 avg, +4), and recorded the most birdies (24) and pars (156) of any team. W&L also posted the fewest bogeys (68) and double-bogey-or-worse holes (21) in the field.

Freshman Berkely Bundy led the Generals with a runner-up finish at +8 (73-72-59-224). Bundy and two teammates, senior Laetitia Roegner and sophomore Ella Wong, were named to the all-tournament team. Five W&L golfers placed in the top 18: Bundy, Roegner, Wong, Haetzel and Crews.

The NCAA Division III Championships will take place May 13-16 at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg.
