Natural Bridge Elementary celebrated Music In Our Schools Month (MISOSM) and Youth Art Month throughout the month of March, ending it with an evening of activities and music for the whole family.
The NBES third through fifth grade students presented their MIOSM music program “Light It Up!” on Thursday, March 27, directed by music teacher Lacey Lynch, and assisted by PE teacher Jason Mazingo and Washington and Lee University student Maggie Eaton. The program centered around the children’s book “The Starkeeper” by Faith Pray, which explores how small acts of kindness can make our world better and brighter. The students used special lighting effects thanks to a grant from the Virginia Education Association.
In addition to the music performance, the PK-5 students and families enjoyed a special Art Walk through the halls of the building with art teacher Courtney Jarvis, as well as Book Fair Family Night activities with librarian Janell Carr.
“It was a very special and memorable night for NBES students and their families,” said Lynch.

NATURAL BRIDGE Elementary students in grades 3-5 perform “Light Up The World” from “Glee,” featuring the school’s Music & Music classes on the cardio drums, during the March 27 Music In Our Schools Month program.

SHADOW MOVEMENT was featured in the “Light It Up!” program. The third and fourth grade Music & Movement students explored different ways to create shadows to help tell the story of “The Starkeeper.”

NATURAL BRIDGE Elementary students also enjoyed showing off their artwork as part of Youth Art Month. Among those was first grade student Charlie VanNess.
