Postseason Basketball Honors Bestowed

Kerr, Cook Earn Top Honors For PM Boys

Ten Parry McCluer High School basketball players – five boys and five girls – were awarded all-district honors last week. Sophomore guard Langston Cook was named Pioneer District player of the year for the boys, and Tyler Kerr was named boys’ district coach of the year for the second year in a row.

Also earning postseason recognition last week was Rockbridge County High School sophomore center Ruby Goodhart, who was selected to the all-region second team.

In the PM boys’ 84-60 loss to Region 1D champion Patrick Henry-Glade Spring in the Class 1 state quarterfinals on Tuesday of last week in Bristol, Cook led the Fighting Blues with 21 points. Cook was a strong scorer and defender all season. PM boys joining Cook on the all-district first team were senior guard Braedyn Houck and junior forward Nathan Glass.

PM sophomore guard Jamier Jordan was named to the all-district second team, while senior forward Peyton Montgomery was named all-district honorable mention.

Kerr, in his third season as PM’s head coach, led the Blues to an overall record of 20-6 and a district regular-season record of 9-0. The Blues won the Pioneer District regular-season and tournament titles and were runners-up to George Wythe in the Region 1C tournament.

For the PM girls, seniors Natalie Mohler and Victoria Hamilton were named to the all-district first team for the second year in a row. Mohler is a guard, while Hamilton plays at both the guard and forward positions. Blues selected to the all-district second team were senior forward Peira Conner and sophomore guard Emory Slagle, while junior guard Kayleigh Ramsey was named alldistrict honorable mention.

Under the direction of Adam Gilbert, in his 15th year as PM’s head coach, the Blues went 17-6 overall and 6-2 in the Pioneer District. As the second seed in the district tournament, the Blues made it to the district championship game, where they fell to top seed Narrows. The Blues’ season ended with a 36-20 home loss to Galax in the Region 1C quarterfinals.

For the RC girls, Goodhart’s all-region honor came after she was named to the all-district second team two weeks ago. Goodhart is a strong scorer, rebounder and defender for the Wildcats.

Guided by second-year head coach Darrell Plogger, the Wildcats went 11-13 overall to achieve their second-highest win total in program history. RC went 5-9 in the challenging Valley District. The Wildcats’ season ended with a 48-45 road loss to Alleghany in the Region 3C quarterfinals. It was RC’s first regional tournament appearance in six years.
